F . A . Q .

How much mulch will I need?

Mulch is a new planting should be spread to a depth of four inches. If you are re-mulching an area you need to apply two to three inches. Be sure to "turn over" old mulch before applying a new layer to avoid a compacted layer beneath the new mulch. Also make sure depth of mulch does not accumulate to the point that the "crowns" of the plants are buried. One cubic yard spread four inches thick covers approximately an eight foot by ten foot area. (Nine three cubic foot bags equal one cubic yard.)

How often do I need to mulch?

Many people re-mulch plantings every year to get that fresh, rich look and smell that comes with re-mulching. However, you may find that if you turn over your mulch it revitalizes the look, allowing you to skip a year between applications.

Are color-enhanced mulches safe?

Our environmentally friendly colored mulches are made of ten percent virgin wood products. They contain no ground pallets or construction demolition. They are colored with an iron oxide-based colorant (red and brown) that is non-toxic and safe for plants. The black is a carbon-based product, which also is non-toxic. Both colorants are naturally occurring materials in the environment.

Which mulch lasts the longest?

Cedar trees contain a high percentage of oils that make this by far the most durable mulch.
